Efficient Team Austria ran over Team Sweden in the IFAF European Championships. Team Austria scored five touchdowns and two field goals. The Swedes didn’t get closer than the six-yard line of Team Austria with the ball. The final score was 41–3 (31–3).

Team Austria’s defense could give so much pressure to Swedish quarter back Juhlin that Team Sweden didn’t get any touchdowns. The man of the match was definitely Team Austria´s RB Platzgummer. He used to be a sprinter as a youngster. He rushed three touchdowns. Kicker Pichlmann was also efficient scoring 11 points. The final score was 41–3.

– Everything went for us. This was one of those days I guess, summed up Shuan Fatah, head coach of Team Austria.

IFAF European Championships continues on Thursday at Vantaa. In the first match of the day Team Austria will face Team Sweden who wants to pay the debts for 2010 defeat. Back then, Team Austria beat The Swedes in the bronze match – final score 30–0. On Thursday stakes are clear: winner will play in the final either against Team Finland or Team France.

Team Austria started their tournament with a victory against Team Denmark on Sunday. The Danes were able to hang on with the Austrians three quarters but after that they fell off the ridge. Team Austria made three quick touchdown at the final quarter and managed to escape unreachable.

– We are just happy after a four years no game for Team Austria and I am very happy that we were able to play a strong game against Team Denmark. We fight them down in a fourth quarter because the first half was very thigh. To get the win was huge for us, told Team Austrian’s head coach Shuan Fatah after the first game.

Team Austria’s offense was very effective. Team’s MVP Alexander Thury led the offence with great confidence and varied offensive tactics well. Team Austria’s total offense yards were 446 of which 250 yards came by foot. Running back Sandro Platzgummer and quarter back Thury both tallied two touchdowns. Team Austria’s defence played an excellent game and silenced Team Denmark’s running game totally.

On Thursday the challenge is going to be different according to head coach Fatah.

– I don’t know Team Sweden really but I have known Andreas Ehrenreich (HC of Team Sweden) for 20 years. He is a good friend of mine. I really don’t know what they are capable of. I know kind of what they are playing in a junior teams because they are more active than the senior team. We are lucky to have a long break and get ready for Thursday.

Team Sweden intends to clear the debts

Team Sweden goes on Thursday with a win in their back pocket against the Danes. The Swedes beat Team Denmark on Tuesday with an average performance. The Danes looked tired and their errors became expensive. Team Denmark led the game by 0–14 after the first quarter but it was Team Sweden who scored the next 30 points. Team Sweden came from behind like stealth and turned the game for their advantage 30–20.

– It was a rough start for us and we made some big mistakes. Team Denmark got a good momentum going and a good game plan against us. We had to take the half time to regroup and come back to see what we can do differently. We got a really good start for the second half and the momentum shifted, told Team Sweden head coach Andreas Ehrenreich after the match against The Danes.

Team Sweden were able to make most of the Team Denmark’s errors and left the field as a winner. The Swedes controled the ball and the clock with a long attacking runs. Quarter back Philip Juhlin led Swedes offense nicely although the game wasn’t his best. Team Sweden’s running game had some troubles to proceed: rushing yards average 2.9. That is something that have to change against Team Austria whose defence was outstanding against Team Denmark’s running game.

– I was born in Austria so I have my relatives down there. It’s always a joy to play against Team Austria whenever there is a chance. Shuan (Fatah) is a great coach and it will be very interesting match-up so I think it’s going to be good game.
